The mission of the Steve Lyons Fund, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, is to support the arts for youth in Haverhill through events and fund-raising. With the help of some 50 local businesses and individuals, we sponsor this event and provide much-needed funding for a variety of youth-oriented organizations in and around Haverhill. Since 2007, The Steve Lyons Fund has used music events as a vehicle for raising money to support organizations such as the Sad Café; the Boy Scouts of America; Girls, Inc; Massachusetts Special Olympics; Reid’s Ride for Cancer Research; and the Haverhill Public Schools Fine Arts Academy and Middle School Band Program.

The Rock Out! Cookout has been the core event since 2012, providing performance opportunities for local music students and professional musicians who share our passion for supporting local music. The event is a family-friendly afternoon of food, fun, music and art—an opportunity for the community to share in the success and support its up-and-coming artists.

8th Annual: Rock OUT! Cookout

“Steve was a music lover but he couldn’t carry a tune in a paper bag. He asked for an electric guitar for Christmas one year. I was excited because I wanted to share my love of the instrument with him. I bought him everything he needed to learn how to play it and offered to get him music lessons. Then he took the guitar apart to see how it worked. He never put it back together again. Steve loved music.”

Tom Lyons

“It wasn’t until Steve left this earth that as his big sister did I discover the impact he had on the lives of everyone he met. The sheer number of people from all walks and phases of his life that have taken the time to share their memories is amazing. I can’t count how many people mention Steve’s smile and his true giving nature. Down on your luck? Need a helping hand? Need encouragement to realize your dreams? Just ask Steve and he’d have your back. It is this spirit that is up to us as the SLF to continue.”
